A. — Empl. intrans. Faire un smash. La condition la plus importante pour bien smasher est la confiance (LACOSTE, 1928 ds GRUBB Sports 1937, p. 69). Certains sports non violents nécessitent des gestes brutaux. Le tennis par exemple: sait-on que le joueur qui smashe ou qui sert, déplace son poignet à plusieurs dizaines de km/h? (L'Express, 10 mars 1969, p. 112, col. 2).
B. — Empl. trans. Smasher une balle. Faire un smash sur une balle. Enfin, nous parlerons du lob (...). La balle est envoyée en hauteur et en longueur, afin qu'elle soit difficile à smasher ou mieux encore dans le but de dépasser l'adversaire (H. COCHET, Le Tennis, 1964, p. 65).
